Siena

Launched in the summer of 2020, the Studio & Research Residency Siena is designed for professionals in the arts and the humanities at all career stages and working in different media, especially music, fiction and nonfiction writing, poetry, and the visual arts. Located in the small hamlet of Chiusure, in the heart of the province of Siena, the studios sit on a hill overlooking the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, founded in the 14th century by Benedictine monks.

Residencies run for 10 weeks throughout the summer. We provide housing, a monthly stipend and round-trip economy flights to nearby airports. The residents live in independent apartments, and they have access to a communal kitchen and terrace.

The program is self-led, and candidates need to apply with an ongoing research project that they will be able to develop independently during their stay. Although Amant doesn’t provide production or research support, we foster the exchange between residents and organize visits to local cultural sites and institutions. The residency is an integral part of the village of Chiusure; residents are encouraged to interact with the local community and visitors with respect.

Residents are selected through a nomination process once a year. We don’t accept unsolicited applications.
